How do you start fishing in Loftia?
Do Kassim's quest Fish Are Friends in the Hanging Gardens. It has you craft the Collector Rod from 5 Rattan, 5 Jute and 1 Plastic Sheet and catch 3 fish.
Loftia has 28 fish. Twenty-four live in the Hanging Gardens: at the Floating Village, Central Lake, The Grove, the Overgrowth, Bamboo Forest and the Secret Lake. The other four, two frogs and two turtles, are in Loftia City's Hills.

Fishing starts in the Hanging Gardens. After the quest A Call From the Gardens, Kassim at the Floating Village gives you Fish Are Friends:
His next quest, Field Research, opens the research stations. The game's tip for collecting fish: "To collect fish for Kassim's research, equip the Collector Rod and look for ripples in the water." The full quest steps are on our Loftia quests page.
How to fish. The game's tutorial explains it in three steps:
A fishing spot refills about 30 seconds after you fish it. Each cast gives one catch: sometimes a fish, sometimes a clump of Algae, or Salt in the caves.
The Where column is the location the game lists on each fish. Spot is the kind of fishing spot where it is the normal catch; the item's rarity label and the spot do not always match, which is why a "Rare" Seventyfour Seabream turns up at Common spots. Set is the research set that asks for it, with the number each set needs. Every set is on our Central Lake Research Station list.

Sightless Seekers is a set at the Overgrowth Research Station; all the other sets are at the Central Lake Research Station. The murky waters players ask about are the Overgrowth's ponds and streams: the Murky Waters set wants the four fish found there.
Yes, fish are tied to areas: each area has its own fishing spots with their own species, and the game's tips say so: "If you're looking for different types of fish, try casting your line in different areas!" and "Some fish live in rivers while others prefer lakes."
Fish in Loftia are for research, not for money. Kassim's team at the Floating Village tracks and relocates fish, and the game uses your catches in two places:
You can't sell fish. Fish carry a value in the game files, but unlike crops, meals and refined materials they are not marked as sellable, and players in the official Loftia Discord reported on November 3, 2026 that the Shipping Bin won't take them. No cooking recipe uses fish either. To earn Dew, ship crops and meals instead; our Loftia money guide compares what sells best.
Look for spots that look different. The game's tip: "If a fishing spot looks a little different, it means you could catch rare fish there!" Rare spots also give the hardest version of the minigame, with a smaller catch zone.
The Secret Lake. The four blind cave species live in the Secret Lake, in a cave high up in the Hanging Gardens. Residents point you to two ways up: one says "I'll have to look for a Propeller if I expect to reach it", and another says a Gridfall device that "makes you jump twice as high" must be useful to reach the cave. The Glider's Propeller is a reward of the Gridfall story quest Mending What's Broken. You need 5 of each cave species for the Sightless Seekers set, which gives the Battery Lv.4 recipe. Both ways up, and how to get into the Overgrowth first, are on our guide to reaching the Secret Lake.
Collector Rod Lv.2. The upgraded rod, which the game says allows "fishing longer distances and heavier materials", is a level 3 Project Station recipe from your Collector Rod, 5 Carbon Fiber, 5 Vines and 2 Magnets. Its recipe is the reward for the Fluffy and Squishy set at the Museum Research Station in the Gridfall.
Ore in the caves. Some cave fishing spots give minerals instead of fish: Copper Scraps, Bauxite Ore or Salt. The rod's description says it pulls "fish and ores from the water". Our Loftia materials guide lists every other source of Copper Scraps.
Two points are open. We found no time-of-day or weather setting in the fishing data we read, so this page does not say a fish only bites at night or in the rain. And the files list three possible results for a cast (Algae or Salt, one fish, two fish) without saying which minigame result gives which. We will reread the fish and fishing spot tables when the next Early Access build changes them.

At Rare fishing spots in Central Lake, in the Hanging Gardens. It is one of the four fish for the Anadromous Odyssey set.
At Uncommon fishing spots in Central Lake. It goes to the Heavy-Weight Titans set, which gives the Hammer Lv.2 recipe.
In the Overgrowth's ponds and streams, at Uncommon spots. It is one of the four fish for the Murky Waters set.
No. Fish are not marked as sellable in the game files, and players report the Shipping Bin won't take them. Use them for research station sets and the Floating Village contribution bins.
In a cave high up in the Hanging Gardens. Residents say you need a Propeller, or a device that makes you jump twice as high, to get there. It holds the four blind cave fish for the Sightless Seekers set.
We found no time-of-day or weather setting in the fishing data. Each area's spots have their own species, and rarer spots look different.
