How do you get a pet in Loftia?
Your first pet is the dog from Joanna's quest Notes From the Fauna in the Hanging Gardens: collect 5 Dog Location pieces, then fill the Pet Bowl with 4 Lettuce and 2 Carrots.
Your first Loftia pet is a dog, and you rescue it in the Hanging Gardens during Joanna's quest Notes From the Fauna: find 5 pieces of the Dog Location, then fill the Pet Bowl with 4 Lettuce and 2 Carrots.
Pets are not store-only. The cat, capybara, alpaca, tortoise and duck are rescued the same way, from pieces you find while gathering or opening treasure-hunt chests. Only Greeny, a robot, comes with the paid Supporter Pack.

The dog comes from the Hanging Gardens story. The quests in order:
Any research station set counts for that step. The Central Lake Research Station's first set, Anadromous Odyssey, is a good choice because it also gives the Project Station Lv.2 recipe; our guide to Project Station Lv.2 walks through it. Notes From the Fauna rewards the Basic Habitat recipe, a home for your pet on your island.
Each animal has its own pieces, its own Pet Bowl and its own district. A pet's pieces only start to drop once its quest or condition is met, and they stop once you have that pet.
| Pet | Pieces drop when | Pieces from | Pieces | Pet Bowl | District |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| | During Notes From the Fauna | The quest's clue spots | 5 | 4 Lettuce, 2 Carrot | Hanging Gardens |
| | After Joanna gives you Fur Real? | Loftia City gathering spots, about 1 in 20 | 10 | 6 Cauliflower, 3 Watermelon | Hanging Gardens |
| | After Joanna gives you Fur-ther Investigation | Gathering spots in all three districts, about 1 in 20 | 30 | 10 Spinach, 10 Wild Greens | Loftia City |
| | After Notes From the Fauna | Loftia City treasure-hunt chests | 50 | 8 Straw, 10 Garden Salad | Loftia City |
| | After Notes From the Fauna | Hanging Gardens treasure-hunt chests | 50 | 15 Banana, 10 Ratatouille | Hanging Gardens |
| | After Notes From the Fauna | Gridfall treasure-hunt chests | 50 | 20 Vines, 10 Fruit Salad | Gridfall |
Most Pet Bowls want crops or dishes: the Loftia crops table shows how to grow Lettuce, Cauliflower, Watermelon and the rest.
Pieces add up to a location. The game's piece descriptions read like "Collect 5x to receive 1 Dog Location", and Joanna explains: "Once you've collected enough pet tracks, you should be guided to the place where our little runaway was last seen!"
The rescue itself follows the game's prompt: "Rescue the [pet] from [location] by finding the Pet Bowl and filling it with treats for the [pet]." The bowl says "Add items to the bowl!", and each pet wants the treats in the table above. Filling the bowl finishes the rescue.
The Basic Habitat is a home for a pet on your island. Its recipe is the reward for Notes From the Fauna, and you craft it at a level 2 Project Station from 2 Flexible Lumber, 2 Resin and 2 Jute Fabric.
A habitat earns a reward that you collect. The game warns before you reset an island slot: "This island has a pet habitat with a reward ready for you. Make sure to collect it before resetting the slot!" Each reward is one of three, at odds of about 6 to 3 to 1: 3 to 5 Bloom, 3 to 5 Chest Keys, or 1 Golden Chest Key. Chest Keys open treasure-hunt chests, which in turn hold alpaca, tortoise and duck pieces.
Equip your pet in the Customization screen. When you rescue one, the game asks "Do you want to equip your pet now?", and "You can always equip your pet later through the Customization screen."
Friendship. The developers' Early Access page says you can care for your pets and grow your friendship with them, and the game shows "Friendship Up" when it rises. Each animal has five friendship rewards: emotes, an accessory and an outfit. The cat's, for example, are a stretch emote, sunglasses, a wave emote, a fluffy jacket and a jump emote.
Emotes. "Open the Emote Wheel and press the swap button to access your pet's emotes. And yes, you can pet the dog."
Looks. "You can choose different styles and accessories for your pet in the Customization screen." Our Loftia character customization guide covers outfits for your own character.
Greeny is a robot pet that comes with the Loftia Supporter Pack on Steam (checked November 4, 2026). It is the only pet sold with a paid pack.
The store sells pet looks, not pets. The developers' Early Access page says the Backer Boutique sells cosmetics such as pet accessories and styles, and the game's store message reads: "You do not have this pet. You need to unlock this pet through gameplay before you can use this cosmetic."
The game files also list two more robot pets, Waddle and Wheelie, each with a Pet Bowl in Loftia City but no pieces. We couldn't confirm how you get them yet.
| Robot pet | How you get it | Pet Bowl | District |
|---|---|---|---|
| | Comes with the Loftia Supporter Pack | None | — |
| | Not confirmed yet | 5 Carrot, 4 Cauliflower | Loftia City |
| | Not confirmed yet | 5 Carrot, 4 Cauliflower | Loftia City |
Four points are open: how often a habitat produces its reward, the friendship levels behind each reward, how Waddle and Wheelie are unlocked, and whether more than one pet can follow you at once. We will reread the pet tables when the next Early Access build changes them.
Your first pet is the dog from Joanna's quest Notes From the Fauna in the Hanging Gardens: collect 5 Dog Location pieces, then fill the Pet Bowl with 4 Lettuce and 2 Carrots.
No. The dog, cat, capybara, alpaca, tortoise and duck are all rescued through quests and gathering. Only Greeny comes with the paid Supporter Pack.
Yes. Each animal has its own pieces and its own rescue, so you can rescue all of them.
A habitat earns a reward you collect: Bloom, Chest Keys or a Golden Chest Key. The game files do not say how long it takes.
In the Customization screen. The game also offers to equip a pet right after you rescue it.
In treasure-hunt chests in the Hanging Gardens, after you finish Notes From the Fauna. About 1 chest in 10 drops 2 or 3 pieces, and golden chests drop them more often. You need 50.
Spend time with it: friendship grows as you care for your pet, and each animal has five friendship rewards. The game files do not list the levels.
