How do you make a hammer in Loftia?
Craft it at your Project Station from 5 Screws and 5 Plastic Discards. The first quest, A Fresh Start, walks you through it.
You make the Loftia hammer from 5 Screws and 5 Plastic Discards at your Project Station, as a step in the first quest, A Fresh Start. Both materials are picked up by hand around Loftia City, so you never need a hammer to make your first one.

The hammer is part of the first quest, A Fresh Start, which Pebble gives you when you arrive. Early in the quest you collect 5 Screws and 5 Plastic Discards for Milo, and those are the same two materials the hammer needs:
Both are picked up by hand, so you can gather them before you own any tools.
Later in A Fresh Start, after you reach your home island, the quest asks you to place a Project Station anywhere on your island, then to craft a Hammer. The game describes the Project Station as the place where "you craft a variety of useful items using materials and Battery charges", so crafting the hammer also uses a little of your battery.
Once you have it, open the Tool Wheel (hold R by default) or press the tools key to equip it, then use it on nearby resources. The game describes the hammer as a tool "used to dislodge reusable materials from big piles of trash".
The full list of A Fresh Start's steps, from Milo's workshop to cleaning up your island, is in our Loftia quest steps.
Loftia City's gathering spots fall into three groups: ones you pick up by hand, ones that need the hammer, and one that needs Hammer Lv.2. Respawn times are the values in the game files, rounded.
| Gathering spot | Tool | Materials | Respawns after |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tall Grass Spot | Hand | Plant Fiber | About 3 min |
| Clay Mound | Hand | Clay | About 3 min |
| Plastic Bottles Salvaging Spot | Hand | Plastic Discards | About 3 min |
| Bucket of Screws Salvaging Spot | Hand | Screws | About 3 min |
| Wire Pile | Hand | Scrap Wire | About 3 min |
| Berry Bush | Hand | Wild Berries | About 3 min |
| Crate Spot | Hand | Plastic Discards, Screws, Tire | About 20 min |
| Wooden Crates Salvaging Spot | Hammer | Scrap Wood | About 5 min |
| Washing Machine Salvaging Spot | Hammer | Metal Scraps | About 5 min |
| Pile of Tires Salvaging Spot | Hammer | Tire | About 5 min |
| Old Microwave | Hammer | Glass Cullets, sometimes Scrap Wire | About 5 min |
| Abandoned Car Salvaging Spot | Hammer Lv.2 | Scrap Wood, Metal Scraps, Glass Cullets, Scrap Wire | About 20 min |
So the hammer is how you get Scrap Wood, Metal Scraps, Tires and Glass Cullets early on. You need them soon after: the next story quest, Permission to Glide, asks for 5 Metal Scraps, 5 Scrap Wood and 5 Tires.
Any gathering, by hand or with the hammer, can also drop Scrambled Coordinates for Ryder's quest; our guide to getting Scrambled Coordinates explains where else they come from.
Using the hammer also trains your Salvaging proficiency, which the game describes as: "Use your Hammer and collect scraps to become more resourceful."
Some objects show a hammer icon with a 2 on them, as players describe it. Those need Hammer Lv.2. In Loftia City, the only gathering spot like that is the abandoned car, which the game files list as "Salvage (Hammer Lvl2)". Players also report objects on their own island that need the upgraded hammer.
You cannot upgrade the hammer in the demo. During the demo, a developer said in the official Loftia Discord on October 20, 2026 that "You won't be able to upgrade your hammer until the full game releases", and in another reply that you upgrade it to level 2 "a bit further into the game".
So leave the marked objects until you reach the Hanging Gardens: that is where the upgrade comes.
The upgrade recipe. Hammer Lv.2 is a level 2 Project Station recipe. It takes your Hammer, 10 Rattan, 10 Copper Scraps and 2 Rubber, and the craft uses 7 charges. You get the recipe from the Central Lake Research Station in the Hanging Gardens by completing its Heavy-Weight Titans set: a Seventyfour Seabream, a Nassau Grouper, a Giant Sea Bass and a Southern Bluefin Tuna. The Hanging Gardens story quest Notes From the Land then has you craft it and show it to Kun. Hammer Lv.3 is a level 3 recipe from your Hammer Lv.2, 5 Electronic Scraps, 3 Rust Resistant Alloy and 1 Lignin, for 10 charges; its recipe comes from the Advanced Mechanics set at the Museum Research Station in the Gridfall.
First, a level 2 Project Station. Its upgrade recipe is the reward for the first set at the same research station, Anadromous Odyssey: an Allis Shad, an Atlantic Salmon, an Atlantic Sturgeon and a Rainbow Trout. The station opens once Kassim gives you the quest Field Research, after Fish Are Friends; finishing A Call From the Gardens alone is not enough. The upgrade takes 3 Copper Scraps, 5 Screws and 5 Scrap Wire. Our guide to Project Station Lv.2 walks through the chain.
You do not need Hammer Lv.2 to get the 10 Copper Scraps its recipe asks for: Rusty Tools spots in the Hanging Gardens' Village give them to the basic Hammer. Our Loftia materials guide lists every source.
The hammer is not the only tool that grows with you. The developers' official list of what Early Access adds names three movement upgrades: a Propeller upgrade for the Glider, Bounce Shoes and Rail Boots.
Tool upgrades were not part of the demo. In the Early Access game files, the Propeller is a level 3 Project Station recipe, a reward of the Gridfall story quest Mending What's Broken; the Bounce Shoes are a level 2 recipe from the Central Lake Research Station, and the Gridfall story quest Everything Is Connected has you craft them; the Rail Boots are a level 3 recipe from the Electric Dreams set at the Museum Research Station, and the side quest Slip, Zip, Hooray! has you craft them. The Pruners and the Watering Can also have upgraded versions. Every material and energy cost is in our Loftia recipes table, and our research station recipe list shows which set unlocks each tool upgrade.
One point is open: which gathering spots outside Loftia City need each hammer level; the table above covers Loftia City only. The upgrade recipes on this page were read from Early Access build 26416344 on November 4, 2026.
Craft it at your Project Station from 5 Screws and 5 Plastic Discards. The first quest, A Fresh Start, walks you through it.
From Bucket of Screws spots and Plastic Bottles spots in Loftia City. You pick both up by hand.
Wooden crates, washing machines, piles of tires and old microwaves in Loftia City, for Scrap Wood, Metal Scraps, Tires and Glass Cullets.
It means the object needs Hammer Lv.2. In Loftia City, that is the abandoned cars.
Get the recipe from the Central Lake Research Station in the Hanging Gardens by completing its Heavy-Weight Titans set. Then craft it at a level 2 Project Station from your Hammer, 10 Rattan, 10 Copper Scraps and 2 Rubber. The Project Station Lv.2 upgrade comes from the same station's first set, Anadromous Odyssey.
You need its upgrade recipe, the reward for the Anadromous Odyssey set at the Central Lake Research Station: an Allis Shad, an Atlantic Salmon, an Atlantic Sturgeon and a Rainbow Trout.
Yes. The Glider takes a Propeller upgrade, the Bounce Shoes and Rail Boots are new movement tools, and the Pruners and the Watering Can have upgraded versions. Every recipe is in our Loftia recipes table.
